'And then there's the 36-year-old Andrey Rubtsov's Chamber Symphony, premiered just 14 days ago by the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, to kick off the current tour: a well crafted, catchy piece.'

Andrey Rubtsov graduated from the Royal Academy of Music and was subsequently named RAM Associate as an outstanding alumnus. He was an assistant conductor to Donald Runnicles at BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra including at BBC Proms and Edinburgh Music Festival.

Andrey enjoys regular collaborations with Russian National Orchestra and Svetlanov State Orchestra. He also worked with Moscow State Symphony Orchestra, State Chamber Orchestra of Russia, Saratov and Samara symphony orchestras, Krasnoyarsk Opera Theatre and others. He was a music director of Moscow Satire Theatre 2014-2022.

Beyond Russia Andrey conducted Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, Baltic Youth Philharmonic, Napa and Aspen Festival Orchestras, Royal Scottish Conservatoire and RedNote – the leading Scottish modern music ensemble.

Andrey devotes much of his time to composition. His woodwind quintet has become a standard repertoire for more than 80 ensembles worldwide including the Berlin Philharmonic quintet. Violin Concerto was performed by Julia Fischer with Academy of St Martin in the Fields as well as Bayerischen Rundfunks. Recording of the Oboe Concerto by Göttingen Symphony received the prestigious International ECHO Award. ‘Nothing short of a sensation’ – wrote Kultura, the leading Russian culture newspaper about Andrey’s Piano Concerto premiere in 2021. In 2022 his compositions reached Vienna’s Musikverein.

For the theatre Andrey wrote and staged an opera and three musicals.
